A. Mythology is the same through the ages, but the symbols used are different. In the ancient myths, a hero must transcend past this world an into a dark place (representing the subconscious) - usually was dark scary places where humans didn't go like deep forests, of beneath the ocean, etc. Well, now we know these places - they are not scary to people anymore. The new scary places are the twisted structures that are of our own creation but have gone out of our control ... Man-made places like the Death Star or the Matrix. Also you see it in the adventures within the walls of Hogwarts, or in corrupt governments, or horror movies where science goes awry - It think the first example of one of these modern myths would be Frankenstein. Q. How did the Columbian Exchange effect society's in Europe and North America?...?
Asked by caselogicc - Fri Oct 10 18:18:13 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Columbian Exchange brought luxury items such as coffee and tobacco to Europe. It also brought potatoes which were nutritionally exceptional for the Europeans. Potatoes boosted the population and led to the inflation of food prices. The importation of gold and other precious medals further stimulated this inflation, which was felt throughout Europe. On the North American side, there were the obvious outbreaks of diseases of which the Natives had no immunity to. The horses and weapons that were brought made the natives increasingly violent. Hope I could help.

Could Mexico collapsing lead to an absolute meltdown of society in North America?
Q. Mexico is our neighboor and we fuel their economy by buying their precious cocain as well as the ever increasingly precious oil. We also have a problem with them - immigration. so if you put the pieces together you will notice that the conditions in mexico are BAD. if their economy disintegrats we will get sky rockting oil and cocain prices as well as tons of rioting uncontrolable immigration into the United States. Now I dont know about you but i am willing to give up some of what i have for these immigrants - making unfortunate lives happier for just a sacrifice of a few meaningless things in our industrialized lives... sound like a no-brainer for someone who has less than half a brain shooting them as they come across the border or… [cont.]

A. The Neo-Marxist's plan is to let Mexico collapse and let everyone come into this country and become voters and people dependent on government to survive. Then they will have complete government control and the one class society they are striving for. Except for the few elite like the politicians and bureaucrats. Sounds really great doesn't it?

What kind of society would Native Americans devolped if Europeans had not made it to North America?
Q. What kind of society do you think they would have created. Many had sucessful careers as authors, humanitarians, etc & able to win military battles w/out equal weapons so they were obviously intelligent enough to be able to create a county/countries. They didnt live in harmony they had wars between other tribes and were skilled at fighting. I dont think you say they were just peaceful people when tribes raided cities for years.

A. That is an intesting question.Being of Native American heritage I think it would have been better since we would not have been forced off our land.Yes there would have been some wars among tribes but nothing to todays scale. The education would be suited for the Native American class and we would have had our own litirature ad authors and set government.

Are there any societies in North America that are not driven by the love of money and the need to rush!,rush!!?
Q. Communisim only works on paper, It is now looking like the same is true for capitalism. What areas of America is not driven by the love of money and the need to get the workers to work more and more with less people? I suppose our jobs are going to China because those people are forced to work for much less that the people in other countries. Are the Amish the only society that is not driven by the love of money? Are Canada, Mexico, Central and South America also driven by the need to buy stuff on credit and by the love of money. It seems we are expected to buy things on credit to keep the economy going. What is wrong with that picture? Doesn't borrowing money and buying things on credit make the borrower the servant or slave of the lender?… [cont.]

A. Are you ranting or asking a question? If the former, thank you for sharing. If the latter, your analysis of the situation may well be perfectly correct, but I see no understanding of the roots of the current behavior. Do you really believe that the head of GM and all those failed banks and other financial institutions were stupid? Do you believe they were ignorant? I don't. I believe that in spite of their intelligence, they found themselves in situations where it was in their perceived best interests to do what they did, even knowing that it probably wasn't the best thing for the country, for the economy, or even for their company and themselves. One simplistic example of this is "The Tragedy of the Commons" That is the way the… [cont.]

How can we stop the objectification of women in North America?
Q. I think we live in a inadvertant sexually opressed society, where women are supposed to be free to be objects... We are "free", but over sexualized by the media. Women are used as sex objects to sell everything to men and women. We can show almost the entire flesh of a breast, but god forbid anyone see a nipple. What is up with that? P.S. I'm not referring to the sex trade as it is a completely seperate issue to me.

A. We need to give up on the current crop and start breeding the "am I hot?" obsession out of little girls. Dressing 9-year-olds like pole dancers and parading empty-headed do-nothing wastes of breath like Paris Hilton in front of children as "role models" doesn't help. Teach your daughters about Amelia Earhart, Sandra Day O'Connor, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Madeline Albright, etc. as role models. Not Pamela Anderson.

A. How about the myth that money = happiness? that is truly an endemic thought that greatly permeates our entire society. It has, however, proven to be mostly untrue. Except for the very poor, whom more money means the difference between not having adequate food clothing and health care to be able to afford those things. If your are middle class and get more money so you can buy more stuff it doesn't necessarily make you more happy. the very rich are no more happy with their lives than are the middle class. Why do you think there are so many therapists and self help books.
