What's the latest on the Republican governors' promise to refuse stimulus money?
Q. There was a big to-do about Republican governors saying they would refuse federal stimulus money. What's the latest on that? Do you think it's a good idea? I live in Texas and oppose the stimulus, but since I'm paying for it whether I like it or not, I think our Republican governor, Rick Perry, should take it. Otherwise, the fed is taking my federal tax money and sending it into other states.

A. The problem with taking it is the strings attached to it. The federal government is not suppose to have that much input on how states govern.

A. It would, sort of, be like a monarchy. Without the board of governors the voice of many will not be heard. It would only be the president's choice. Advantages are, - voice of the people within the jurisdiction of the governor will have a more chance of being heard. - Different suggestions will be heard throughout the meeting. The board of Governors usually have a high percentage that their voice or suggestion will be chosen in the said meeting. Hope this one helps...

In the Cal State system is there something similar to the Board of Governors Fee Waiver?
Q. When I attended a community college in California, the board of governors' fee waiver would eliminate my tuition cost and then whatever money I would get from FAFSA could be used to cover the cost of books, etc.. Now that I am planning to attend a Cal State University will I have to rely on FAFSA to pay for tuition as well as everything else?

A. There is nothing similar to the BOG Waiver at Cal States. Once you transfer to a CSU the only types of assistance are various types of grants, loans, and work study.

A. Absolutely, yes. 6 years for Representatives, 12 years for Senators. No one should make a profitable career out of public service. That's why it is service. The best people we can find should serve for a short time and then return to productive life. In the US, we have 535 people who couldn't run a lemonade stand profitably, making laws that have consequences that none of these fools could even begin to comprehend because they have spent their entire professional career making promises with other people's money. At some point, they should have to get a real job.

Should the governors who refused the bailout money be impeached?
Q. Why are these governors saying no to the bailout money when they NEED it? For example, the Governor of Louisiana said that his state does need the money. When the homeless is still high, their in a deficit, and their welfare program is outrageous. Alaska, Palin said she didn't need the money when the current oil prices are killing alaska's economy. They need the money yet for some strange reason they don't want to accept it. Claiming that "I feel like our state don't need it" Rather, they just relying on their personal thoughts they should ask for the thoughts and concerns of the people they're supposed to be representing. This is pure party politics! These Governors are more considered about impressing their Republicans buddies than… [cont.]

A. A resounding no ... They should be praised. Never does a Federal Dollar go to a State without strings attached. There will be many (unfunded) Federal Mandates put into the acceptance. Therefore leaving states to find money in the future (large tax increases) to fund what the Feds say they must do now. On the contrary...EVERY governor that accepts the funds should be impeached along with all of those that voted in favor of the stim-u-less bill. Some people will actually tell you that it's your tax money your getting back, which only makes sense if it were coming from a surplus not a deficit. Many people are allowing themselves to be bribed with their own money. How wise is that.

A primary weapon used by colonial legislatures in their conflicts with royal governors was?
Q. A: extending the franchise to include almost all adults white citizens. B: passing laws prohibiting the governors from owning land or industries. C: voting them out of office. D: using their power of taxation to withhold the governor's salary.

A. I took AP history this year and the answer is D. Type the phrase power of the purse colonial history into google and it should come up. The governor's salary was essentially paid by the colonies themselves, so if they didnt like what he was doing, they would withhold the money and the governor would comply.

Also Join clubs ( Rotors club, Jaycees etc..) Businesses are involved with these clubs. So Now you'll have Political support & Business support.

That said, there are some that aren't. I'm confident that 100% of Democrat governors are taking money. As far as I'm concerned most of the stimulus package is unconstitutional per the 10th amendment.

Other former governors have been effective presidents. President Carter was governor of Georgia for 4 years. President Reagan was governor of California for 9 years.
